Lumberjack Day

On Friday, March 23 the fourth grade students celebrated Lumberjack Day as a culminating activity to their study of Wisconsin History and the early years of the timber industry. The students read the book, Journey Back to Lumberjack Camp by J.L. Panagopoulos, where they learned about life in the 1800s lumberjack camps.  On Friday afternoon, the students had a chance to compare what they had learned about the past to the timber industry of today. Teachers, Ken Dunbar and Andy Arentsen, presented information on their work on timber cutting crews, and brought along modern protective gear and tools. Students then listened to some Paul Bunyan tall tales, created lumberjack songs, and ate a flapjack meal prepared by their parents.
